whiter
than a ku klux klansman's bed sheets
than a piece of chalk
screeching across the blackboard
than a bouquet of lilies
sticking out their stamens and pistils
to
the
ear
of
god
on easter sunday
whiter
than a painting
by
kasimir malevich
whiter
than an art gallery wall
sticking its tongue out
at whistler's nocturne
in pink and blue
whiter
than that line of cocaine
making my nose itch
whiter
than a ticker tape parade
in the canyon of heroes
whiter
than an anglo saxon baby's butt
than that polar bear
who promised to keep me warm
during nuclear winter
than
those gloves worn by that rich lady
allergic to the poor sleeping in the alleyway
so rest your head upon a feather pillow
get under a fleece blanket
and sleep till you wake up
on a white xmas
on a morning so white
you have to wear sunglasses
or you'll be permanently blinded

out
this
poem
making a fresh start
on a brand new piece of paper
creating
a
perfectly counted haiku
crowding so much meaning
on
the
head
of
a
matchstick
struck against the sidewalk
summing up the universe
like a miscalculation
flying out of the orbit
of common thinking
or
the cosmic force
of a child's
perfectly
round
snowball
