PARIS
by Eve Packer

i can see them walking,
strolling from chatelet to
gare de nord, pre-dawn, few cars,
fewer people, shuttered charcuterie
& brasseries, metro shut &
they're carrying instruments, in what
is called the tone zone, rapping
music, old stories people
they know, who owes them money,
no place to get coffee, sit down,
no train to take, finally at 6:30,
one can get the metro, the other,
no francs, train, food, just
a horn, sitting back to closed cafe, looking
at huge statues on gare de nord, waiting
dawn & its blue
