Eye Sense
by Patricia Carragon
We come together,
Play pantomime with eyelids -
Blink in slow motion.
Syncopation moves
On city streets
After rain decided to leave.
Spicy smells on a grill
Heat up aromatic conversation.
Love grows from sidewalk cracks
And takes off,
Like two pigeons
Flying toward Central Park
And their private alcove
By the lake.
We have cappuccino and pastries
At an outdoor café,
Watch a skyscraper rise
In the distance.
Eye sense sees more
Than friendship.
We turn away
And kiss.
We might as well reside
In the whipped cream clouds
On our sky blue plates
Since we do not see
That there are guests
Feasting on our crumbs.
